Each year, the country’s best cheeses are awarded the Käsekaiser. The latest winners were chosen from a total of 191 entries,
and the coveted statues were awarded in ten categories. In the first phase, a panel of 80 judges, made up of cheese connoisseurs, trade journalists, producers and industry representatives, selected the five best cheeses in each category from among all entries. An independent committee of national and international experts then chose the best of the best. They were rated for aroma and taste, appearance, body and consistency. One Tirol Milch cheese speciality were nominated, underling the company’s professionalism and competence in the area of cheese-making.


In the ‘hard cheese’ category: Tirol Milch Urtyroler

Tirol Milch Urtyroler has previously won several awards both nationally and internationally. This premium mountain cheese speciality is matured for at least 12 months. This gives it an incomparably strong & piquant, savoury flavour. The protein crystals produced during the long maturing process underline the uniqueness of this cheese speciality. A true pleasure for all the senses.


World Cheese Awards 2017-2018: 1x Gold, 2 x Silver and 2 x Bronze

Gold for Tirol Milch Urtyroler

Tirol Milch Urtyroler is made from the finest Tirolean farmers’ milk. This premium mountain cheese speciality is matured for at least 12 months. This gives it an incomparably strong & piquant, savoury flavour. The protein crystals produced during the long maturing process underline the uniqueness of this cheese speciality. A true pleasure for all the senses. Tirol Milch Urtyroler has previously won several awards both nationally and internationally.

Silver for Tirol Milch Kaiser Max and Tirol Milch Bergkäse g.U.

Tirol Milch Kaiser Max is a savoury, piquant semi-hard cheese made according to age-old tradition and treated with red cultures during its six-week ripening period.

Tirol Milch Mountain Cheese is ripened for at least 14 weeks, which gives it a strong, highly aromatic taste. It is also suitable for longer storage and develops a special piquancy with increasing age.

Bronze for Tirol Milch Tiroler Alpzirler and Tirol Milch Tiroler Weinzirler

Tirol Milch Weinzirler is left to ripen for at least six months, during which it develops its distinctive strong and piquant flavour. The cheese is then refined with red wine for a further two days, which gives it its special taste and dark-red rind.



“We are delighted to have won these four Käsekaisers in 2018, especially for the ‘mild & fine sliced cheese’ category, in which Austria’s most popular cheese Schärdinger Bergbaron has now won its tenth golden statue to coincide with its 40th anniversary year,” said Gerald Kotzauer, Director of Sales and Marketing at Berglandmilch eGen.
